Witch Hunt 101: The Hunter Biden Saga vs. Trump’s Legal Circus
Why lying on a gun form and paying back taxes is a scandal, but 91 criminal charges for a former president is just "politics as usual."
I really don’t care what MAGA Nation has to say about Biden pardoning his only living son, do you? First off, talk about a witch hunt. Republicans went after Hunter Biden to punish Joe Biden personally.
Let’s break this down: nobody gets criminally prosecuted for failing to pay or miscalculating their taxes—so long as they agree to pay back the owed amount with penalties and interest, which Hunter has already done.
As for lying on a federal gun purchase form about drug use? Yes, Hunter admitted he was addicted to crack cocaine at the time, but let’s not pretend this is a crime that usually results in jail time. The vast majority of people who lie on ATF Form 4473 aren’t prosecuted.
For context, in 2017 alone, out of over 112,000 denied purchases, federal prosecutors pursued just 12 cases. Even state prosecutions rarely lead to jail sentences, and when they do, it's generally for violent felons or repeat offenders.
And yet, these charges were blown up into a national scandal, despite their minor nature and Hunter’s cooperation with authorities. Compare this to Donald Trump, who’s been indicted four times and faces 91 criminal charges across federal and state courts. Let’s take a moment to remember the allegations:
Hush Money Payments (New York): Charged with falsifying business records to hide a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
Classified Documents Case (Florida): Accused of mishandling classified documents after leaving office, obstructing the government's efforts to retrieve them, and lying to investigators.
January 6th and Election Interference (D.C.): Facing charges for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results, which culminated in the Capitol riot.
Election Interference in Georgia: Charged under RICO statutes for pressuring state officials to "find" enough votes to overturn Biden's win in the state.
Despite the mountain of evidence against him, Trump remained free to campaign for president, fundraise, and spread baseless claims about political persecution. Why? Because he’s a former president and the president-elect, and in some cases, he’s argued for immunity due to his role as commander-in-chief.
Hunter Biden, on the other hand, is just the president's son—an ordinary citizen. Unlike Trump, he doesn’t wield influence over national security or our democracy.
If we’re outraged about justice, let’s be consistent. While Hunter has owned up to his mistakes, Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing, even as he stands accused of crimes that strike at the very foundation of our democracy. Maybe it’s time MAGA Nation takes a hard look at who the real “witch hunt” is targeting.
So happy Biden did this! This article is a great recap of the issues. People like Trump think they are above the law. So far he has been. If whining & lying were crimes Trump and all MAGAites would be in jail.
