As they say, “birds of a feather flock together.” Not only is Trump rounding up some of the most underqualified people for high-stakes positions, but two of his potential picks—Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth—come with some seriously shady baggage.
Let’s start with Gaetz. Yep, the same guy who’s been under investigation for alleged sex trafficking might be up for Attorney General. Attorney General! The role that’s supposed to champion justice and hold everyone accountable. The irony is almost too much to handle. How exactly do you uphold the law when you’re busy dodging it yourself?
Then there’s Pete Hegseth, the Fox News guy reportedly in the running for Secretary of Defense. Hegseth, who has faced sexual harassment allegations, brings little to no experience in managing large, complex systems like the Department of Defense. However, his loyalty to Trump seems to have outweighed any lack of qualifications. The role demands someone with deep expertise and a proven track record, not a résumé built on cable news appearances and political allegiance. Service members deserve better.
This isn’t just about questionable picks—it’s about the kind of precedent this sets. These are roles that directly impact millions of lives, and Trump seems to be treating them like participation trophies for his inner circle. Rewarding loyalty over competence is a bold move when the stakes are this high, and by “bold,” I mean reckless.
If these are the people being considered, we’ve got to ask: what’s the real goal here? Is it to serve the public good, or just to stack the deck with more yes-men who share his... let’s call it unique approach to leadership?
It’s to install “yes” men. Running the government isn’t like running a bankrupt real estate company.
